Clovis Thrusting Spear

Funds for increased hunting and fishing access is the only thing special enough to warrant us moving this hand-crafted Clovis thrusting spear out of our podcast studio and into your hands. It was donated to us by Kent State University Professor of Archaeology, Dr. Metin Eren, who runs an experimental archaeology lab. Eren knapped the Ice Age Clovis point using English flint that he personally sourced from the white chalk cliffs of southern England. The point was then hafted onto treated pine shafts by archaeologist Michael Wilson.

In addition to appearing on the MeatEater podcast and the MeatEater documentary "Butchering a Bison with Clovis Points and Tools", Dr. Eren is regularly featured in news and media around the world, such as PBS NOVA, PBS News Hour, the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, the BBC, NPR, CBC, and many others. He has published over 210 scholarly papers, a great many of them on North America's Ice Age Clovis culture, although he also conducts research on human evolution and prehistoric hunting and survival in and across Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as on firearms forensic crime scene investigation. Dr. Eren founded the world renowned Kent State University Experimental Archaeology Laboratory, where he, his colleagues, and his students recreate and reverse engineer ancient technologies to figure out how they work. He has been flintknapping himself for over 22 years.
